Creative Writing 1 - Novel & Memoir: 12th - 18th June

This intensive five-day course will begin with a general look at the world of publishing both in literary fiction and memoir. We will examine what agents and ultimately publishers are looking for, and what sells. The course then takes a more practical approach, with writing intensive writing exercises to encourage students to write in a new environment and to take a closer look at their work in preparation and to prepare a plan of action for the coming months.

This course is led by literary agents, editors and successful authors of the highest calibre who will lend a critical eye to your work and discuss your ideas with you.

The course will also examine the fine line between memoir, autobiographical fiction and a writer’s first novel.

Tutors will examine common themes between novel and memoir: characterisation, narrative thrust, dialogue and structure.

Guest speakers:
Author Liz Jensen who will talk about her career and her thriller 'The Ninth Life of Louis Drax' soon to be released as a movie.

Drummer and Author Dave Barbarossa who will talk about his career as one of the most original drummers of his generation and his critically acclaimed debut novel 'Mud Sharks'.

Lyricist Danny Wright, formerly of The Rainbow Club, London will demonstrate how even the most reluctant of musicians can write a song and tell a tale in three minutes.

Tuition, full board and lodging at Miradoux House with private room - £1000

The rooms are allocated on a first come first served basis (a large majority of our rooms are en-suite)
